February 15, 2025 - March 16, 2025

White River, South Africa

Migration remains a central concept prevalent in Michael’s work. Although born in Uitvlught in Mpumalanga, Michael has a clear recollection of his journey to Mabopane at the age of nine, where his mother would settle. Speaking Siswati, Michael’s integration presented challenges and triumphs that are deeply embedded in the memories of his youth.

"When you migrate, there are always memories of where you come from, so you are always trying to reflect or remember where you’re coming from so you can know where you’ re going. I’m working with migration , but I’ m also dealing with everyday issues, social issues, social commentary of what’ s going on, and the migration issues that we always ig nore. That’ s why I want to t alk about those issues. I also wanted to portray women in a dignified manner , different from how wom en have been portrayed before , so I wanted to put some dignity and respect with how I portray them , a lso highlighting the role that they play in society.”
